Someone had recommended it to me and it’s referred to as a ‘classic’, which is usually a good indication of at least a good read, even if it is perhaps not your own personal favourite. What I didn’t enjoy was hearing about a man ordering asparagus off season so he could bask in the stench of his urine.
An example of this is the detail GGM throws in about Urbino drinking chamomile tea, any then rejecting it, saying that it tastes like windows. And to even attach the word love to it is an insult to anyone who knows what love ljubav u doba kolere is. I read this for my Reading Challenge, this weeks category was to read a book with a love triangle. All in all, I thought it was a bit overrated.
I wouldn’t have finished it ljubav u doba kolere it was required reading. His obsession, liaisons, ignorance, blindness and an absolute lack of strength made me cringe at every steps.
